Buoyant Rover prototype. Researchers for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory testing the Buoyant Rover for exploration under ice. The robotic rover has two wheels and independently controlled side lobes, with cameras and lights. The prototype was tested in arctic lakes near Barrow, Alaska, USA, where it is being used for mapping, as well as assessing methane content of the permafrost. This technology could one day be used to explore oceans under the ice layers of planetary bodies such as Europa.
