Timelapse footage of stars over Mount Damavand, which is illuminated by the setting Moon. Mount Damavand is the highest volcano in Asia, standing 5610 metres tall in the Alborz Mountains in northern Iran. It is a dormant volcano, with active fumaroles on its flanks and many thermal springs, but no history of active vulcanism. This view looks north, with the Plough in the constellation Ursa Major at right, and the Pole Star Polaris near the top of the frame above and left of the peak. Filmed in December 2011.
