Global agricultural data. Animation of agricultural density and yield data imposed on a map of Earth. Shown first is pastureland density. Pastureland is land used for rearing animals, it covers 30 million kilometres of land. Second, the amount of crops grown for human consumption green and animal consumption red are shown. Crops that are grown for both are orange. It can take up to 7 kilograms of feed to produce just half a kilogram of meat, a very inefficient conversion rate. Next is cropland density. Cropland is land used to grow plants for human and animal feed, materials and fuel. It covers 16 million square kilometres. This is followed by current and potential cropland yields. Some areas, such as the US midwest, are producing at near potential, others are currently producing well below their potential amounts. These under_producing areas are bright yellow on the last map, which shows the food production gap.
