7261502 View of Mote House (No1), 1800-30 (Watercolour) by Shepherd, George Sidney (1784-1862); 21x25.5 cm; Maidstone Museum and Art Gallery, Kent, UK; (add.info.: View of Mote House (No1), Maidstone, Kent. The watercolour shows the colonnaded south front of the Mote and an ornamental bridge over the lake. The artist is said to be John Preston Neale (1780-1847) but is has also been attributed to George Shepherd Senior (active 1800-1830s). The Mote had been the seat of Lord Romney, Lord Lieutenant of Kent from 1895-1927 it was the residence of Sir Marcus Samuel (Lord Bearsted) founder of the Shell Transport and Trading Company.); by Maidstone Museum and Bentlif Art Gallery .
