In the Troops' Quarters outside Paris, 1870/71, (1936). 'Im Etappenquarter Vor Paris, 1870/71'. Headquarters of the German army at the ch?teau de Brunoy, during the Siege of Paris, Franco-Prussian War. The Germans are depicted as energetic, red-cheeked, and wearing dirty boots, constrasting with the luxurious, pastel-coloured interior that they have requisitioned as temporary accommodation. They are cultured, however, and are singing and playing the piano. They have not burnt their enemy's furniture but have collected firewood. After a painting made in 1894, in the Alte Nationalgalerie, Berlin. From "Bilder Deutscher Geschichte", (Pictures of German History), No.12, cigarette card album. [Cigaretten-Bilderdienst, Altona-Bahrenfeld, Hamburg, Germany, 1936]
